Why do we require an application?

Our application process is in response to two of the most common questions our Riders have prior to booking a trip with us:

1) Am I skilled/fit enough to participate in this Ride?
2) Will the other people on my Ride be skilled/fit enough?

Ensuring that you - and the other Riders on your Ride - are a good fit for the Ride selected is of paramount importance to us. We want to help you pick the Ride that's perfect for you, and ensure that everyone booked on a Ride is on the right Ride for them. That's why we want to know a bit more about you - your mountain biking history, where you ride, how often, etc... - before we take your money.

We review every application and if, based on your responses, we think you're a good fit, we'll approve your application and you'll receive a link to place a deposit. If we think you might not be a good fit (either too skilled or not skilled enough for the Ride you chose), then we'll give you a call to discuss your preferences in greater detail.

Please note: our application process isn't about excluding anyone, or making anyone feel like they're not 'good enough' to participate in one of our Rides. It's about ensuring that you end up on the right Ride for you, with people of similar skill, fitness and riding preferences. In the end this ends up being a much better experience for everyone.

The Volcan Irazu peak is the highest active volcano in Costa Rica. From the top it is possible to see both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans on a clear day.  However, such clear days are rare, and the volcano’s summit is usually cloud-covered.

Max temperature up there is about 63 degrees fahrenheit. Not great gradients, and more lung-busting than leg-busting because of the altitude, but gently technical on the rutted, rock-laden roads.

We will have some sweeping descents on asphalt that turned to gravel and rocks.  The gravel turned to muddy farm roads and rocks, as we started our up-down-but-mainly-up ascent to La Central.

We will pass through very different country to that thousands of feet below as we rode through cooler climes.  Humid rainforest canopies and coffee fields were replaced with high-country pasture land and grazing cows, and terraced potato and cauliflower fields.

Horses, cows, dogs and geese are part of the little village of La Central.

From La Central it is a 30km, 6,600 foot descent on beautiful windy, and predominantly car-free roads, back to the town of Turrialba at 2,099 feet.  The dirt farm roads quickly turned to asphalt for a spectacular ride home which started cold, with sunglasses misting, as we descended at a fast pace through the cloud base.

IS THIS RIDE FOR YOU?

You are an expert level mountain biker who lives for aggressive enduro-style riding with gnarly, raw, technical, fast descents and tonnes of climbing (some steep!). Sustained, steep and loose descents are no issue for you. You rarely, if ever walk. Riding raw, rugged trails with ruts, natural foliage and features like old stone steps sounds like the adventure you've been waiting for. You’re excited to pack up your 6” full-suspension all-mountain bike with dropper-post and toss it on a plane for an incredible adventure. While roughing it on the trails, you enjoy comforts like a jacuzzi and perhaps a massage.

After mastering our skills, our adventure begins, we will start the adventure going thru the deep forest and farms by the active Turrialba Volcano, after passing the main dairy farming we will start enjoying the downhill until arrive to the Turrialba downtown on a specific place where the transportation will be waiting for us.
Last but no least before leaving we will enjoy a grateful meal to have our adventure done with a perfect closing.
After a full day of adventure, we'll return to town, driving time 3 hours to San Jose and take you back to your hotel. If there is any energy left a celebratory drink at the hotel bar will be a good option for all to celebrate.
